At North East Derbyshire District Council, the Governance team looking to recruit a new administrative apprentice.

The service provided by the Governance Team requires an enthusiastic and motivated team player to work at the heart of the authority alongside elected members, senior officers, parish and town councils and members of the public.

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for the Governance Team and some senior members, including the leader of the Council, so will need to be approachable and an excellent communicator. The successful candidate must also have the ability to solve problems under the supervision of the Governance and Civic Officer.

The successful candidate will be flexible to provide support to other teams within the directorate such as Legal and Elections and, in turn experience and development within these areas will be gained.

  • To respond to or redirect enquiries as the first point of contact for the Leader of the Council and the Governance Team.
  • To assist the effective, efficient and timely preparation of committee papers using a variety of electronic processes under the supervision of the Governance and Civic Officer
  • To ensure records of committee membership are kept up to date
  • To provide efficient word processing and clerical support including letter writing, audio and copy typing, reprographics and report manipulation
  • To support diary management for senior members and officers
  • To maintain and archive electronic information
  • To assist with the work of the chairman's office, including event and clerical support
  • To ensure that the democracy sections of the council's website are accurate and up to date
  • To make room bookings and set up rooms appropriately for committee meetings, working groups and member meetings
  • To attend and contribute towards governance team meetings
  • To support senior members and officers and the staff that work directly for them
  • To assist the elections team and legal team as and when required
  • To work as part of a team and provide cover during periods of absence

Applicants will be required to attend an Assessment Centre with Vision Apprentices as part of the screening process.
