Aircooled Hut UK is a small business based in Mansfield, focusing primarily on Aircooled VW engines & also the odd Aircooled Porsche engine.

The owner's passion for tinkering with engines started as a teenager, tuning 50cc motorcycles. Over the years his love of petrol engines has progressed to high performance cars and Sports Motorcycles & of course Volkswagen's. With a love for building engines and speed it was inevitable that the high performance Aircooled engine would become part of his working week.

USED ENGINES.

  • Stripping engine down to individual components.
  • Bag and store reusable parts.
  • Scrap metals sorted to type and stored.
  • Steam clean parts.
  • Label and measure engine case with accuracy to determine if can be machined fo reuse.
  • Steam clean and air dry cases returned from machinist.
  • Steam clean cylinder heads, air dry and label. Inspect for cracks.
  • Steam clean crankshaft, measure and oil ready for machine work and storage.
  • Broken studs will require drilling out and re-threading.
  • Measure engine cases and cranks for correct bearing sizes.

GENERAL DUTIES.

  • Answering phone.
  • Keeping work areas clean and tidy.
  • Taking in deliveries and logging in to storage.
  • Booking out components for engine builds and laying out on bench ready for use.
  • Cleaning up spills.
  • Safe handling of oils and flammable liquids.

IT DUTIES.

  • List parts or sundries when low on stock ready for ordering.
  • Updating web site products.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT.

  • Gloves. (Various types)
  • Overalls
  • Steel toe cap boots or trainers.
  • Dust masks (paper and cartridge types)
  • Eye protection
  • Full face screen.
  • Waterproof jacket for steam cleaning.
  • Ear defenders.
  • Use rubber gloves and barrier cream on hands.

HEALTH AND SAFETY.

  • Some lifting required but lifts are available and must be used whenever possible.
  • Use hand wash station and hand cream as required.

CYLINDER HEAD WORK.

  • Steam clean and inspect Cylinder heads.
  • Grit blast in bench blast cabinet with dust extraction.
  • Steam clean and remove valves, springs.
  • Remove valve guides and replace with new.
  • Lap in valves.
  • Install new valves.
  • Test for leaks.
  • For performance engine builds cylinder heads will require boring out using specialist tool on pillar drill or milling machine.
  • Thoroughly Jet wash to remove any foreign materials, air dry, label and store

Appplicants will be required to attend an Assessment Centre with Vision Apprentices as part of the screening process.
