Medical Equipment Management Department (Memd) operates within a 800 bedded Trust employing some 3,200 staff. It provides a wide range of medical equipment management services looking after some 20,000 medical devices valued at £35 million.

Gain knowledge and experience by complete a training post with a fixed term contract of up to 24 months, (renewable annually), following the Engineering Apprenticeship - Performing Engineering Operations. Focusing on electro-medical devices

The Post

This will involve:

  • Working in sections of Memd as directed by your line manager. Duties will vary depending upon the requirements of the various service elements
  • Assisting, under supervision, Medical Engineering Technicians in aspects of the equipment maintenance process, specifically:
    • Assisting in the delivery and collection of medical devices
    • Contribute to the decontamination and cleaning of medical devices.
    • Assisting in the equipment maintenance processes of electro-mechanical medical devices and other simple equipment types system.
    • Develop a basic appreciation of the Departmental Medical Device Information System.
    • Reliably perform other technical and clerical functions as required to support the operation of the Department.

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the comprehensive medical equipment management service which leads to the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

  • Collect and deliver medical equipment from the department/equipment library and clinical areas
  • Receive medical devices into the department/library and contribute to the decontamination and cleaning of devices.
  • Assist technicians in the delivery of the medical device maintenance programme, working in the Dept and at various wards and clinical departments.
  • Learn to enter and access data on the Dept Medical Device Information system.
  • Take calls from customers and log requests onto the medical device information system.
  • Perform routine manual maintenance procedures on electro-mechanical and simple electrical medical devices
  • Assist in the testing of new medical devices and the condemnation of elderly/obsolete equipment
  • Work in different areas of the department on a rotational basis as required.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings and internal training sessions as required.
  • Be aware of the department's safety policies and adhere to high standards of safety when carrying out duties within the workshop. Attend annual fire lectures.
  • Strictly observe confidentiality of all information concerning patients and adhere to the Data Protection Act. Represent the department to a high professional standard in conduct, manner and appearance and to uphold Trust values.
